In 2016 this list ran for 62 days, but with short daylength and unreliable weather, opportunities to get out and look were limited.
105 species were seen, my total for this period last year was 98. The list includes three lifetime firsts, these were Desert Wheatear, Common Scoter and Great Northern Diver (my 421st Lifetime Species).
I saw four species of grebe including Black-necked and Slavonian. Sadly I did not manage to catch up with the reported red-necked Grebe at Weir Wood Reservoir. Other notable birds included my second ever Long-tailed duck at West Rise, a Caspian Gull north of Exceat Bridge, Bramblings at Old Lodge, Jack Snipe at Pett Level, Goldeneye at Rye Harbour, Dartford Warbler at The Lookout, Short-eared Owl at Pevensey Levels, and both Greenshank and Spotted Redshank at Cuckmere Haven.
