Celandines

Lesser Celandines are, for me, the second woodland carpet species of the year, after Snowdrops. This amazing spectacle is in the Beech woodland opposite Friston Church, which is part of Friston Forest. This Forest was planted on largely open downland in the 1920s. The Beech saplings were protected with conifer windbreaks. Some of the stands of trees, particularly those in more sheltered places, are now starting to look quite impressive.
