Summer Holiday Day 28: The Lookout

The chalk grassland flowers continue to amaze this August.

Further up the hill is a marvellous chalk heath. The recent grazing regime has really benefited the Ling, Cross-leaved Heath and Heather. They were in full flower and awash with butterflies: Common Blue, Chalkhill Blue, Meadow Brown with three Clouded Yellows spotted.

Nearly a great photo...

Strange behaviour by a bird on a path alerted me to a large Elephant Hawkmoth caterpillar. The bird was repeatedly hopping forward and tentatively pecking at something that was wriggling in a reptile like way.

House Sparrow

Linnet

Juvenile Stonechat

Lime-speck Pug

Everlasting Sweet Pea with... a Common Blue, not a Short-tailed Blue. I will keep looking
