Dorset: Valley of the Stones

Migrant Hawker

Long Horn Cattle - apparently they are docile!

Spotted Flycathers - there were at least four. A year first.

Valley of the Stones. These Sarsen Stones were weathered during the last Ice Age and fell to the valley floor.

Linnets

Lesser Fleabane - this flower attracted lots of butterflies.

Juvenile Goldfinch

Hornet Mimic Hoverfly

Clouded Yellow. It is extremely unusual for this to be the most common species of butterfly I see on a walk; there were over fifty on the day!

Some of the couple of dozen Yellow Wagtails feeding around the grazing cattle. No wonder they do this when you look at the number of flies on the cattle. Another year first.
