Grey Seals at Horsey Gap

This has to be one of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences in the UK. The normally wary Grey Seals seem to have lost nearly all their fear of humans, as long as one remains a respectful distance from them. Hundreds of adults can be hauled out on the beach, within a thirty minute walk south of the car park. To be so close to so many large wild animals is remarkable.

Their calls are lovely, like a gentle high pitched mooing. I think this pup is less than 24 hours old, as none of the volunteers, who marshall visitors, knew it was present. Several of the smaller, younger looking individuals were playing at the edge of the sea, while the large old males did nothing other than sleep.
