Hastings Blue Reef Aquarium

Despite being an aquarium, there is also a small but interesting collection of reptiles and amphibians at the Blue Reef in Hastings.

Rankin's Dragons (Pogona henrylawsoni), a species of Bearded Dragon from Australia. These lizards were really active, hunting crickets.

Argentinian Tegu (Salvator merianae). This remarkable species is apparently as intelligent and affectionate as a dog.

Madagascan Day Gecko (Phelsuma madagascariensis)

Golden Plovers at Rye Harbour

The wintering flock of Golden Plovers is a remarkable spectacle, particularly on a sunny day early in November, with many individuals retaining some of their summer finery.

The flock was very nervous, and every few minutes they would take off, wheel about, then settle back onto the small islands in the Flat Beach area of the reserve.
