Massed Jackdaws, Hill Road

Before Ash die-back devastated the scarp-edge woodland above Hill Road, there was a wonderful mixed roost of Jackdaws and Carrion Crows. Numbers of birds in the Autumn could exceed 1000. The reduction in cover means this is largely gone. However, locally Jackdaw numbers are back on the increase. On sunny days, when the wind is just right, large numbers socialise briefly high in the sky.
