Some wonderfully warm southern air, and British Summer Time meaning dawn, at 6.20 am, was actually manageable, combined to make a magical experience. One that was worth the insect bites.
Between 6 and 7am we heard 23 species: Great Tit, Blue Tit, Wren, Robin, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Woodpigeon, Stock Dove, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Jay, Jackdaw, Buzzard, Pheasant, Tawny Owl, Herring Gull, Carrion Crow, Nuthatch, Tree Creeper, Firecrest and Dunnock.
Green Woodpecker, close to the tree where it has bred the last few years.
