Flooded Cuckmere Haven

The mouth of the Cuckmere has become blocked by shingle, and it is steadily eroding east. This means that water from recent rain cannot flow away easily, keeping water levels further up the valley very high. The drain connecting the meanders and the river, has consequently been feeding water into the east side, resulting in the flooding.
