Petworth

A beautiful day for a visit to West Sussex. Before we arrived at Petworth we had time for a quick walk at Lord's Piece.

I think this is a species of dung beetle.

Braken showing autumnal colour.

The beautiful light gave the birds on the lake at Petworth a sense of hyperreality.

Greylag Geese. I have never noticed the ring of pink surrounding the eye before.

Winter plumage Black-headed Gull

For half an hour I watched this Kestrel feed on dragonflies that it plucked from the tips of reeds as they basked. This was new to me.

Kestrel

Pied Wagtail. There were several on the roof of Petworth House.
