Jevington Plantation in the fog

Incredibly foggy day, with water condensing on twigs and falling like rain. Tawny Owl calling at dusk.

Jevington Plantation, after Storm Darragh

The sheltered patch of ancient woodland still has some sizeable dead Ash, much of which succumbed to the storm. Still more remain, waiting for strong winds from the north to finish this chapter of the woodlands history.

The Lookout, near Belle Tout

Teasel near the Belle Tout tumult. The mild autumn weather with low cloud obscuring the higher hills to the east.

Possibly lichen growing on the chalk heath

Birling Gap

Rock Pipit

Bathing House Sparrows

A very high tide and rough sea had forced the local Rock Pipits up into the car park. The local House Sparrows were making good use of a puddle from the recent rain.

The winds from Storm Bert were still wild at dusk. Too strong to get to the sea.

The End of Autumn

Arctic air giving the sunrise rare clarity and a heavy frost. The end of autumn.

Sunday, 17 November 2024

Jevington Plantation

The mild, dry Autumn continues, and the leaves in the wood lie thickly on the ground. The Hazel and Elm are yet to colour, while the Walnut are briefly distinctive, with smaller specimens revealing themselves in dark brown and yellow.

Blue sky moving south, brings cooler weather.

Fox and Magpies, Hill Road

I was intrigued to see these Magpies so relaxed and close to the Fox. I think a pair of Foxes had raised a litter near the field earlier in the year, so perhaps the animals were familiar with each other.
